Laos, Thailand boost trade, investment cooperation

High ranking Lao and Thai officials met in Vientiane on May 24 to discuss increased cooperation across different sectors in order to promote trade and investment between both nations. Laos was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr Somdy Duangdy, while Thailand by Deputy Prime Minister, Somkid Jatusripitak, with participation by Ministers of Laos and Thailand from different sectors, especially Industry and Commerce, Planning and Investment, Energy and Mines; Information, Culture and Tourism; Public Works and Transport, and the Bank of Laos. During the meeting both sides consulted on trade facilitation and border trading for promoting the sale of goods as well as plans to build a border market, Mr Somdy said at the press conference after bilateral discussions.
Both sides discussed logistics cooperation by improving many main roads and bridges to link with each other and ease transportation issues, he said.
